For human resources employees, the unknown power of artificial intelligence and machine learning looms like a large gray cloud. It could downpour any minute or, it could dissipate and reveal sunshine and blue skies. Uncertainty often leads to assumptions, and you know what they say when you assume.
Today’s HR teams are inundated with new tools and must evaluate each quickly. Wading through assumptions, misconceptions, and myths is time consuming. Buzzwords like “automation” sound cold and lead us to think that robots might replace us. The most common myth we believe is that AI, and “bots” in particular, will one day make certain people and positions expendable.
Another common myth is that AI bots can perform absolutely any task. Their intelligence is considered limitless. This feeds into other myths about how or if humans will remain essential to businesses that adopt AI.
But people can remain in the loop when it comes to intelligent bots. AI doesn’t mean people are unimportant; it empowers them to let go of repetitive or mundane tasks and instead invest time in keeping employees informed and happy. AI can work in tandem with people to keep the “human” in human resources.
Ultimately, there are plenty of positive use cases for AI, but you have to muddle through the noise.
